Maharashtra alone has more than Lacs of sikligar sikhs. They have lost their identity, and are on the verge of extinction even. So we aimed to focus more on the region where there was no help for these people. There are other states also where the Sikligar people live, like Karnataka (Karnataka Sikh Welfare Society works for their upliftment), other Northern states.

Sikligar is a distorted form of 'Saiqal + gar', which is a compound word of Persian for the person who burnishes metal. They are Keshdhari Sikhs since generations. They are economically very poor and living below poverty line. Once these people used to master armourers and due to the strict restrictions upon arms, have now turned highly skilled Blacksmiths. They make household utensils and other agricultural equipments from iron scrap.
These people are not organized, nobody is to guide them for their uplift and they are scattered throughout the country in very small groups.

No not at all, our main objective is to work towards education. We help anyone from the weaker sections of the society, irrespective of the religion, caste, creed and colour. We have instances when we have helped students who are non-sikh, in meeting their school fees, tution fees, and other necessities.

However, since we also aim to give good human beings to the society, we strive for a value based education too. This is done in the from of Sikh religious teachings imparted to the children.

Education is the base for anything. Illiteracy has been the cause of downfall of many a societies, tribes, and races across the world.
On the other hand it is also true that to a person who only has 100 rupees in his hand, will first feed his family and children, cover up his body, look for a shelter, and probably then go for education.
We have encountered such situations, and so have reserved some portion of our expenses towards providing shelter to the needy, helping them with their occupation, and then motivating them to send their children to school. And we have been successful in doing this
